Fishing Charters Near St. Marys, GA
The same water you see from St. Marys, fished from the Florida side
St. Marys, Georgia and Fernandina Beach, Florida share the same water. The St. Marys River runs out to the Atlantic between Cumberland Island and Amelia Island, and the long rock jetties at its mouth are some of the most productive fishing spots on this stretch of coast. Big Fin Charters fishes those jetties, the surrounding inshore waters and the offshore grounds beyond them on every trip.
Our boats leave from downtown Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island. From St. Marys or Kingsland, the drive is usually under an hour by way of I-95, and once you are on the boat the jetties are only a short run from the dock.
Getting to our dock from St. Marys and Kingsland
There is no bridge across the St. Marys River at the coast, so the drive goes inland. Head west to I-95 at Kingsland, go south across the state line to exit 373 in Florida, then follow A1A (State Road 200) east onto Amelia Island and into downtown Fernandina Beach. We send the exact meeting spot on South Front Street when you book.
Because you are fishing a Florida charter, everyone’s Florida fishing license is covered by the boat. Georgia residents do not need to buy a separate Florida license for the trip.
Fishing the St. Marys inlet jetties
The jetties are the heart of our inshore fishing. Redfish and black drum work along the rocks, sheepshead pick at the barnacles in the cooler months, flounder hold on the sandy edges, and tarpon roll through the inlet when the water warms up. Our half day and 3/4 day jetty trips are built around this spot.
If you have walked the south end of Cumberland Island, you have probably seen the north jetty from the Georgia side. On a Big Fin trip you get to fish it.
Heading offshore
Past the jetties, our offshore trips run from 6 to 12 hours, with bottom fishing for red snapper, black sea bass, gag grouper and amberjack, plus trolling for king mackerel, mahi mahi and wahoo when they are around. See our offshore fishing charters for trip lengths and distances.
Everything is on the boat
Your trip includes the fishing licenses, rods, reels, tackle and bait. Charters are private for up to 6 guests on our 30 ft boat or up to 4 on our 24 ft boat. Pack your own food and drinks, and bring a hat and sunglasses for the glare off the water.
Good for Kings Bay families and visiting groups
A private charter is an easy way to show visiting family the coast, celebrate a birthday or get a group of friends out on the water. Kids are welcome, and our shorter jetty trips are a great introduction to saltwater fishing. You can also read about Amelia Island fishing charters and our trips for Jacksonville visitors.
